As a Mets fan, I am of course not happy Furcal is back. He use to kill us when he was in ATL. Of course at that time, it seemed like everyone on the Braves use to kill the Mets. I don't know if it's a smart move for the Braves to trade Escobar. If they do, I will happily take him on the Mets. Can he play 2nd base?

I'm hoping that ink hasn't completely dried and the Dodgers still have a chance to make a decent run at him. The Dodgers without Furcal next year will be in a bad spot when it comes to fielding a shortstop. Sorry Braves fans, but I think Furcal might still in the end come back to LA.

If you've watched the same team I have, one without a lead-off hitter since Furcal left prior to 2006, then this move is anything but desperate or stupid. The Braves need a table-setter.

I was a huge Furcal fan before he left. Once he got hurt he definitely seemed to loose a step. As a Braves fan I am not happy about his return. I do not believe he is the Furcal we used to enjoy watching and I don't think he is on par with Johnson nor Escobar. There is something that seems to happen to former Braves players who go to southern California to play...

What makes people think we have to trade KJ or Yunel? We need a 3B in reserve in case Chipper gets injuried so why can't Yunel be a long term 3B or 2B? Also there has been a lot of talk about KJ going back to the outfield where he originally was planning on playing. Hey he's a better offensive player than Frankie... don't kid yourself by thinking he's not. Granted we still want to trade for a SP, but really with Hudson, Vazquez and assuming Smoltz and Glavine can partially come back we still have some really solid young pitching that could continue to grow in the backend of the rotation. It's not perfect, but it's not horrible either. Besides I'm pretty sure we still have some budget money to spend on pitching.

Only way I like this signing is if Escobar stays and we somehow land a big starter out of the dominoes that fall into place.

Trading Escober and ending up with Furcal isn't what I would call an upgrade. Escobar: Younger, cheaper, bigger upside.

Morning JB. Yeah, big news indeed. This opens the door for a big trade for a starter. I hate giving up Escobar, because I think the sky's the limit with him, but if that's what it takes to land a top-notch ace (Jake Peavy, you ready to come to the A now, pal?), then I say do it.

Furcal is a game-changer, a leadoff hitter with speed who plays hard and plays great defense. He'd be just fine at second base, too, and a DP combo of Esco and Fookie would be hard to beat.

Gonna be an interesting next few days, for sure.

That'd be a pretty great middle infield - Furcal and Esco. You lose power with KJ out but then either him or Esco becomes trade able. Get some more power or some pitching.
