This signing was definitely a surprise to me. Didn't expect to see Smoltzie go to Boston. I always liked him but I hope it backfires.

I am just heart-broken. Another favorite gone. The last of the good ole boys. It's really getting hard to get excited for the next season. I hate to see the opening day roster and say "I don't have a clue who any of these guys are!". Let's just hope my Jeff doesn't go anywhere. That happens I'm done!

I sincerely hope for Wren's sake that Smoltz doesn't start a game until June and they give Derek Lowe whatever he wants. He's better than Burnett by far anyway. As long as Jo-Jo Reyes doesn't start a game the season will be a success in my eyes.

It kills me. I have never watched a Braves team that did not include Smoltz. I mean his career with the Braves is only one year younger than I am!

It is almost impossible to believe that the Braves front office would let Smoltz go -- he is the Braves face for many, myself included, who have followed the Braves from the Neikro days to the present. I cannot imagine the frustration and disappointment that all Braves fans must feel by hearing this news -- all I can say is "Say it ain't true, Joe!"

This is a horrible divorce. I hate to see him go, but then again I like to see the team become younger for the future. I don't know what to think of this upcoming season. We have the Yanks and Sox here in town June 23rd thru the 28th. I would like to see us win atleast 4 out of 8 of those games.

I think this is a good move for Boston, although I am shocked Smoltz signed before other like Oliver Perez and Derek Lowe. I was under the impression that Smoltz would not be back from injury until the second half of the season thus making him a good pick up sometime in May or June.
