The Launching Pad: Is Chipper a Faker?

  • Kat · 1 year ago
First the cheesesteak scandal, then the hot dog bomb that was detonated before the game, and now this? What goes on?!

Seriously, though, as much as he's done for the Braves, and since there's no October for them this year...well...that'll do, Chipper, that'll do.

Doesn't matter to me in the least. Whatever it takes to win. My favorite was in 1996 when Tony Gwynn was about 40 ABs short of qualifying for the title. So he just took an 0-40 and still won the batting title.

Would really like it if he was still hitting well and playing. Should have traded his ass when I had the chance. Unfortunately everyone knew he would go down hill, and I couldn't get good value for him.

I think he has been sitting out to protect his average.. and I really hate the braves... but I mean, the rules for the title don't say that you have to play every single game with atleast 2 ABs or something.

I also called in the beginning of the season when he was hitting 400+ that he would hit a slump mid season, and then stop playing to protect his average, he would finish with a 360 if he's lucky... lucky guess.. maybe.. but I was definitely right.

As I've investigated this story a little more it seems the throwing is what's really bothering Chipper. Thus, the pinch hits.

It was the fact that he said he couldn't hit righty and then blasted that 3 run homer that made me think maybe he wanted to coast into the title.

This guy made an interesting suggestion... I don't know what I think about it though.

you write like a bosox fan about manny after he's left. Strange sense of gratefulness you people exude.

I don't know if he's faking it, but there's really no incentive for him to play and (potentially) injure himself. The Braves are out of it, he's pretty much got the batting title, why even risk getting hurt in some freak accident while the weather's getting cold? I wouldn't be surprised if they give him the weekend off.

Besides, Prado has been doing a pretty damn good job covering for him.

it wasnt 40 it was 4 hitless AB's

I'd hate to think that he's tanking the end of the season for a batting title after all he has accomplished in his career.

I'm reminded of the fact that it's still talked about around Boston that Ted Williams could have sat the last day of the season to maintain his .400 average (something like .399999) ... but instead played in a final doubleheader to actually INCREASE his average to .406

Wouldn't it be much better to look back on Chipper's accomplishment and rave about his competitiveness, and not have to wonder if he was faking it? Come on Chipper .. show us all what you've got!

Are you really a Braves fan? Chipper plays hurt every year and now that he wants to take some time off and heal you're going to call him out? Maybe if Prado wasn't tearing it up Chipper would have had a reason to come back, but wait the Braves had no chance to make the post season after April.

Chipper is definitely faking. How many games has he missed in the last few years? None. And now after a long season of not being hurt and playing every single game his shoulder is bothering him? Likely story Chipper. Likely story.

D is wrong - Chipper has been hurt quite a bit - hammies & such - in the last few years in my memory. What about it JB?

I think the idea of Chipper faking was put to rest once the news that he went for an MRI was posted on Atlantabraves.com

Come on guys, we're not Mets fans! Chipper is the man, why would he sit if he wasn't hurt? That is just wrong.
