    JB, another excellent post. I have to second Andrew's comment that the Sept. 21, 2001 game will always stand out in my mind above all others. Obviously, not because of baseball but the spirit of the moment. I vividly remember feeling sorrow and inspiration simultaneously as the police and firefighters took the field prior to the game, and then the Mets and Braves all shook hands on the field before the game started. It was a really intense night.

    From a pure baseball perspective, I'd have to go with Robin Ventura's "grand slam single". That was a moment that had me jumping off the couch so high I almost hit my head on the ceiling. What a game! And I still bear some contempt for Rocker...

    Thing is... most of us true Braves fans have some level of contempt for Rocker too. The guy was poison in the clubhouse. Not only did he say the things he did about NY fans, he took shots at our own players (Randall Simon at the time). He had some good saves but I can't say he wore the Braves uniform well.

    It only makes sense that the Braves would beat the Mets in their last game at Shea.

    True and he did have talent but when he starting becoming a clubhouse distraction, it's not fair to the guys who are trying to be professional and play ball. I haven't really missed him.

    JB, solid post, brought back some good and not-so-good memories. The first game after 9/11 speaks for itself, and Piazza's homer was one of those moments you have to appreciate and applaud, even if it comes against your team.

    Remember Karsay being enraged about something in that inning. Can't remember if it was ball/strike calls or not.

    That Game 5 in 99 was something else. We were putting out our newspaper that night and the ... game ... just ... wouldn't ... end. Of course, we were ready with all our Braves win the pennant stuff, which got shelved for a couple of days (until AJ drew the walk off Kenny Rogers in Game 6 in the middle of the night).

    And you're right: No Shea list is complete without Game 6 in 1986. I still can hear Vin Scully's voice calling that fateful grounder to Buckner at first.

    Too many Shea memories for me if you're not going to limit it to Mets-Braves games. Even though the 1999 NLCS had the wrong outcome, those games were fantastic. I always felt cheated as a fan that we didn't get to play the Braves in 2000.

    Sorry JB, I have no love for Shea. My undying hatred of the Mets extends to everything associated with him.
