With 9-11 and all the feeling in New York made it even more of a special event for the Yankees and their fans. And then for the Diamondbacks to do the unthinkable and beat Mariano the Great with a bloop single to win the series just made it that more memorable.

Hurt to see as a Yankees fan but its one of my favorite ever.

Re: Best World Series Ever-Vote and Win

No problem. Of course a Canadian like you would pick that one....

If we're playing by those rules, than I'd say the Braves 1995 World Series was the best....EVER!!!!

Re: Best World Series Ever-Vote and Win

JB, I have to go with the 1993 Jays over the Phillies and Joe Carter's 3 run shot in the bottom of the 9th in game 6 to win the World Series. The Yankees were filled with such talent but and were so dominate for so many years that it took a guy who hit 11 HRs all season to wack 2 in the WS.

Having no love for the Phillies and probably equal for the Dodgers I am going to say Dodgers vs Rays with Rays winning for this year.

Re: Best World Series Ever-Vote and Win

Tough call .. I almost voted for the '91 Series simply because of the amazing Game Seven battle between Smoltz and Jack Morris, plus the sheer amazement of the two teams involved.

But as you say, when you look at the rosters of the teams in '75. WOW!

Plus the series had some memorable moments beyond the Fisk hit.

1) Tiant's performance in Game One, including hitting and running the bases

2) My man Bill Lee pitching 8 amazing innings only to have the bullpen blow it

3) Game three - Bernie Carbo's first pinch hit home run of the series & Ed Armbrister/Larry Barnett catcher interference fiasco

4) Tiant again .. 163 pitches

5) Game Five - Perez two home runs

6) .. Game Six .. it's all be said

7) Eephus pitch .... Joe Morgan single

When a kid who was 12 years old at the time can recite a game by game list 33 years later .. you have a winner!

Re: Best World Series Ever-Vote and Win

Thanks Chris. You can vote for any Series you want. The poll is just a primer. Good luck with your pick!

Re: Best World Series Ever-Vote and Win

Greatest World Series for me is 1998, Oakland A's against the Dodgers. But if choosing from your list I would agree the 2001 World Series was pretty great. Unfortunately I'm to young for the 75 and 60, but they sounded great.

Prediction for this years World Series winner, Dodgers over the Red Sox in seven games!

Re: Best World Series Ever-Vote and Win

Did you have a pick for winner? Not being a New York fan of any team I was partly pulling for the Yankees for emotional reasons from that year. It would have been a terrific story for New York and instead we got one of the most memorable endings. I could watch that World Series any time.

My prediction is Phillies over Rays in the World Series for this year in not so classic fashion. I also subscribe to the feed through Google Reader.
