Are the Red Sox the Next Evil Empire?

Started by jaqbaldwin · 8 months ago

Don’t kill me, Red Sox Nation… Hear me out.
I was scrolling through the Braves message boards the other day and noticed a sentiment that is making small yet noticeable waves amongst the Atlanta denizens. Seems there is some loss of love for our American League counterpart ... Continue reading »

  • I have to disagree. The Red Sox were always Evil Empire Jr, even when they were that fun lovable team to many that won in 2004 (only god knows why). That team was primarily bought, actually moreso then the current roster.
  • Fantastic read. I can't believe you referred to Farnsworth as talent, though. Well, I guess in all fairness, he probably does lead the league in bar-closings...
  • Great Read. I'm a diehard BoSox fan and at the end of the day spending a little more money to get those 25 more hits and 10 more innings isn't the problem. Plus we do have a great farm system in Pawtucket, and have a lot of young talent coming up. I find spending the almighty dollar and not getting to the Fall Classic can be a problem.
  • They are also a very smart baseball operations team that evaluates talent & has produced a lot of talent from within. See Ellsbury, Pedroia, Youkilis, Lowrie, Lester, Masterson, Delcarmen and Papelbon!

The problem I have with the Yankees of late is that their spending is on hitters rather than ballplayers. They just go out & buy the best hitter they can get with what seems like little regard to how they will conform to the team's chemistry or functionality. Just because you buy a team of all stars, doesn't mean that you'll be the best team on the field every night. They still have to play like a team! The recent Yankee dynasty under Torre had non-all stars like Paul O'Neil, Chuck Knoblock, Tino Martinez, etc. They were blue collar players that overachieved when it really mattered!
  • Red Sox are being cast to play the villain in Anaheim, home of the happiest place on earth.
